White Rabbit Creamy Candies
So…guess what color in my impromptu Memorial Day Color Scheme JSFR thing this snack represents. I’ll go ahead and give you a few moments to puzzle it out. No worries, Numbers is on while I’m writing so I’ll just take a few moments to watch that and let you…oh. Well OK then I guess the ‘White’ in the title was sort of a give away. And also the fact that I said I was going to do a red white and blue thing sort of made that easy. Can you blame me though? Here I am wandering around my second most favorite Asian Grocery store for something white and something blue and wala! White Rabbit Candies. I figure it’s my apology for yesterday’s pink red. And I really liked the crazy rabbit on the package so in the basket they went.
They also went up north for the tasting and when we unwrapped them we discovered three cool things:
A fun little rabbit in front of a painter’s palette. Why a palette? We thought that maybe there were other colors of rabbits out there. Red rabbit? Green rabbit? I’m going to have to check that out. Also, I really liked the font they used here for White Rabbit.
A ring of odd little bunnies on the outer edge. We can’t decide if they are squaring off to beat the beegeebus out of each other or playing a game of patty cake. They are also lined up so they look more like a design at first.
Edible inner wrapper. At least I hope it’s an edible wrapper because I’ve been edibling them all day. It’s your standard rice wrapper deelie that we’ve seen before in Soken Seaweed candy and Boton Rice Candy but less ricey. I’m thinking that might be a regional difference as White Rabbit is Chinese and Soken and Boton were Japanese. Since the edible inner wrapper doesn’t add much of anything except a bit of bland before you get to the candy, we thought it might be there to keep the outer wrapper from sticking to the candy.
And thus we finally get to the JSF. We thought they looked a lot like vanilla Tootsie Rolls and hey! They taste a lot like vanilla Tootsie Rolls too (once you suck through the rice paper wrapping). They are nicely vanilla-y and buttery in a buttery taffy kind of way. They are also really, really stiff in a really, really stiff taffy kind of way. You might not want to try these if you have delicate dental work but if you are five or six years old you should totally pester your parent to pick up a bag of these. You’ll score big with the tooth fairy.
We liked them and when we all put our heads together we came up with a
Rating of 4 wasabi peas out of 5.

I can certainly vouch for the tasty. sm and I first discovered White Rabbit back in the early to mid 90’s, when we still lived in Ann Arbor. They’re great! In fact, I just acquired a large-size bag a few weeks ago at the Asian grocery/Chinese take-out place near where I work (also picked up some green tea mousse Pocky, which is rockin’ good).
There is at least one other flavor it comes in – a mango variety, which IMHO is not as good as the vanilla.

Did Green Tea Pocky already, got a pretty high rating from someone who doesn’t like the green tea (hi!). I’m going to have to look for mango rabbits and then someone to review them for me.
