\nAnyone else singing The Proclaimers<\/a> song teardrops<\/u> but substituting “beer drops” for the lyrics? No? OK, it’s just me then (and all the other people I’ve been cheerily hollering “BEER DROPS! RUNNING DOWN YOUR FACE!” at). Truly, I can not get that song out of my head.<\/p>\n

Today I bring you Beer Drops (mustnotsingtherest), another installment in my many, many purchased food drops from the latest J-Listing. I think I bought about 12 of these things and quite possibly can cover an entire meal in candy drops. Can you imagine sitting down to a plate of curried rice food drop with a side of salad food drop and your beer food drop on the right (or left, depending on your beer drinking hand preference). Waiting on the side board would be your dessert food drop along with your after dinner food drop aperitif (or possibly coffee food drop). How…Asimovian.<\/p>\n

I don’t think I am ready for the meal of the future quite yet. In part because the curried rice were disturbingly tasty but also because the beer drops aren’t quite there yet. The Sapporo Beer Drops are mostly a sweet hard candy with a faint mild lager taste. A sort of ‘hint of beer’ candy if you will. I briefly entertained the idea of going out and picking up some Sapporo to see if the drops tasted true to the beer in question, rather than generically lagerish, but the lazy won out and no shopping was done. Still, from what I can remember about Sapporo and from what my Favorite Guinea Pig tells me, these drops do taste more Sapporo-y than they do Guinness-y or Leinenkugel-y. I salute you again, you Mad Japanese Food Scientists! Beer Drops. Huh.<\/p>\n

My only regret is that the sweet of the candy gets tangled up with the beer taste in a not so harmonious way. Normally beer isn’t sweet so it is a little disconcerting for me to be partaking of beer candy. If the curried rice drops could confuse the stomach into thinking there was a meal on its way, the beer drops serve only to irk the same organ. At the moment mine is hollering at me, “Sugary beer? What are you thinking? Cut it out!”<\/p>\n
