\nIt’s official; scotching is a process done to the dairy family. I can only wait with anticipation for cheese scotch to appear and the family will be complete. Wait, are eggs dairy too? Anyway, here is the third of the dairy scotches, this time with milk the victim. Well, and berries too it seems.
\nThese guys taste exactly like raspberry Cream Savers (made by the Lifesaver Candy folks but darned if I can find their homepage to link to), which is to say (if you have never had a raspberry Cream Saver), like a dense, raspberry flavored hard candy. There is a…butteriness, sorta, to these scotches as well. Kind of. Maybe, or perhaps there is a depth of creaminess not usually found in a plain ordinary raspberry hard candy. I like that, a depth of creaminess.<\/p>\n

There is also a depth of chemically induced Raspberry Flavor (No. 12) residing in these scotches as well. They come on strong and very refreshingly raspberry (with that nice depth of creaminess thing) and all is golden until you have settled into the candy. Then, ever so subtly, a taste that could have only originated in a lab somewhere begins to work its way into the mix. It’s sneaky, but it is there and by the end of the Berry & Milk Scotch you wind up doing that disappointed face thing and wishing you had something else to eat to get rid of the taste. I felt rather suckered in with the initial nice raspberry only to be left with a lingering and unpleasant aftertaste.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Rob says it is the shit as far as Japanese hard candy goes. He too tasted the nasty aftertaste, but was enjoying the “not hideously nasty” aspect of the raspberry flavoring and the depth of creaminess. It’s all a matter of perspective, I suppose. So you can either relish in the taste that is far and above the squalid depths of the usual Japanese hard candy or you can be fairly disappointed as your western palate picks up on the lingering nast-ertaste. However you decide, I’m giving Berry & Milk Scotches a<\/p>\n
