Meiji is getting in on the Pocky phenomenon – although to be truthful Meiji already has a brand of Pocky like critters called Fran. I don’t quite understand why a company doubles up on one idea but it could be that Fran is being phased out and Lucky Stick is the new Pocky rival. Or perhaps Fran is the deluxe Pocky-like line and Lucky Stick is the everyman’s Pocky wannabe. Or maybe Meiji just likes making Pocky-alikes. Whatever the story, Lucky Stick is an awesome name for their new Pockyesque brand. Hee.

So what marks a Lucky Stick to make it unique from Pocky? They both seem to be some sort of chocolate based goo dipped onto a grahamesque stick (although Lucky Stick is favoring a slightly pudgier and delightfully cocoa infused graham stick which you rarely see in Pocky). They are also similarly packaged except Lucky Stick is running with the single interior package (hate!) whereas Pocky seldom does in the larger sized boxes. Hrrrmm. On the other hand when I opened the single package of Lucky Stick, a delicious waft of chocolaty fudgy cocoa came out to greet me. Which…often happens with chocolate based Pocky too. So I guess the difference is that there is not a lot of difference.

Lucky Stick (chocolate cream) is pretty much a fatter, chocolaty, dusky cocoa tasting sticked Pocky knock-off which holds its own against the original goo on a stick. I’d say there are some plusses to being Lucky Stick over Pocky because Pocky tends to have a rather weenie thin graham stick and Lucky Stick’s stick is pretty buff. Lucky Stick’s stick is also neatly rounded off on the ends which Pocky is not. Is that cause for addition or detraction of pea points? Not really but it’s something to note.

As far as taste, this Lucky Stick is very much on the cocoa end of chocolate which may be the (chocolate cream) aspect of the flavor. If you have a cocoa thing, this might have the wherewithal to kibosh the cocoa nosh. It’s pretty good in that area. It’s also crunchity and the goo is just slightly less melty than the original Pocky. Not bad. I was trying to decide if this was a 3.5 or a 4 pea treat and I really wished I had gone with quarter pea points because Lucky Strike is absolutely the ideal of a 3.75 pea snack. I’m going to go with a 3.75 taste and then give it a little more for the awesome name and the rounded, finished looking fatter stick.

Rating of 4 wasabi peas out of a possible 5 wasabi peas.

[12,22,21

post-793","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-40-peas","category-pocky","category-sweet
["GET
