Well, not THE ring. It’s an old family heirloom that belonged either to my great-grandmother or to her sister. We’re not sure… It was in with my grandmother’s jewelry though, and it’s very old…
It’s sort of a placeholder ring, as far as I know… My mom brought it down at thanksgiving and gave it to my sister to give to me. The first I knew about it was Friday evening.
My fiancee is a bit worried about wearing a ring… She’s active and athletic and has an occasional habit of finding bruises on her extremities. Her general reaction to that is to say, “Oh yeah… I remember bumping into something and thinking that it would leave a bruise…” Usually when I ask what it was she bumped into she says “I don’t remember…”
At any rate, she’s worried about how much damage she might accidentally inflict on a ring. For her engagement diamond we’re going to do something in a pendant instead… Her mom and her grandmother have given her their engagement diamonds, so it’ll have all sorts of family connections.
We will have rings though… We’re looking at having our wedding rings made for us by a jeweler in the U.P. that my parents have worked with in the past. We don’t have any sketches done yet, but we’re thinking of a pattern involving fall leaves because of some sentimental associations…
