Two things about windows and only one of them is computer related. I’ll deal with that first. I was going to do an entry from work yesterday and, at a whim, I decided to update from one of our Windows PCs instead of the Mac I usually use. For some reason, instead of letting me create a new entry, it kept dumping me back to the login screen and asking for my password. Very vexing. I could probably have figured out what was wrong if I took the time to do so, but I shouldn’t have needed to take that time…
Anyway, it was too minor to merit that level of attention, so I didn’t bother.
After work, my Fiancee and I headed over to her friend’s place and we hung out chatting and BS’ing until after midnight. One of the things we got talking about was her friend’s job and the lack of cool window displays in their store.
That kicked our creative juices into overdrive. Window display creation has always sounded like a lot of fun… Especially for a shop specializing in videos, music and all sorts of other pop culture collectables from Japan. If you’re not in the Ann Arbor area and want to check out their inventory online, head to www.wizzywig.com. I wouldn’t recommend doing an internet order just yet… Give it a week or two for them to integrate their new shopping cart system into the website.
Anyway, it’s an interesting store with lots of cool stuff, but kinda lame window decorations. But we know some of the “behind the scenes” guys, so we know some of what they’ve got in the warehouse. So we started brainstorming on window display ideas. We figured that, if they covered the cost of materials and threw in an extra fifty bucks we could do some cool stuff for them…
Examples? Well, they’ve got two things in the warehouse that just aren’t moving well: Sailor Moon figurines and pillows with Japanese cereal box designs on them. So we get a huge mixing bowl, an enormous serving spoon and a round section of white plexiglass. Put the plexi in the bowl, so it looks like it’s full of milk, and build a diving platform out of the pillow boxes. Then have a small army of Sailor Moons gathered around to go swimming.
Other ideas? Well, they’ve got two human mannequins and a bunch of little Godzilla figurines. Have the giant humans stomping on a city made of cardboard boxes and all the little ‘Zillas running in fear…
That kept us busy until way late… Today’s plans are fairly simple. I’ve already moved the pumpkin wine to the cellar and taken the orange wine out of the sink. Once I’m done with this, I’ll start the demolition of the downstairs bathroom. Then tonight we’re off to a birthday party for on old friend of mine… We’re leaving in just over an hour, so I’d better get busy.
