Oi, my blistered feets!

Headed out to an excellent lunch at the new PotBelly sandwich place with my Fiancee and Alessar today. It’s DAMN hot out there! I was sweating up a storm by the time I got to the law library… Normally it’s about a 20 minute walk, but I was running late so I hustled and made it there in about 15. In retrospect, that was a bit of a mistake.

I’m a long-haired-sandal-wearing-damn-hippie-punk for most of the summer, and today was no exception. Unfortunately my feet aren’t acclimated to them quite yet, so the rapid hustle-walk in combination with the heat has rubbed the soles of my feet the wrong way. I’ve got a nice set of blisters building, just in time for the holiday weekend.

I hate the way blisters feel. When I was a kid we’d go camping during the summer. One time we were sitting around the campfire and some damp wood went ‘Pop!’ and sent a shower of sparks up into the night sky… Very picturesque, but it also sent small fragments of red-hot coals out around the base of the fire, one of which went between my flimsy foam flip-flop sandal sandal and the sole of my foot. It melted into the sandal, which quickly sealed to the bottom of my foot. If you want to try to match the feeling at home, go epoxy a ‘strike anywhere’ match to the bottom of your foot and walk on some sandpaper until it goes off.

Blisters are like that, but not as intense. To compensate, they spread the pain over a long time. I’ve had an uncomfy burning feeling going since about noon, and it’s just starting to fade. And I know that if I have to hustle anywhere at all quickly, it’ll start right up again. Fortunately, it’s a long weekend, and I fully intend to spend as much time as possible relaxing.
