A lot of the other stuff I’ve been working on this week is much cooler, but it’s OR footage, so obviously it’s nothing that I can post here. Patient privacy concerns aside, people just aren’t at their most photogenic when they’re completely anesthetized.
Oh, and just a bit of operating room trivia that you probably won’t see in TV medical drama: When someone’s been put under, the anesthesiologist uses a little square of tape to hold their eyelids shut. It looks really goofy, but it’s for a good reason. Basically, when you’re muscles are relaxed like that you temporarily lose your blink reflex. If your eyes aren’t taped shut, they could get something in them or dry out and you wouldn’t even know about it until hours after the damage had been done.
