Summer has, I think, finally arrived. It’s been in the 80’s in the afternoons around here, and muggy in the fun Southeast Michigan “air like a wet washcloth” fashion. I’m really tempted to wash my car, just to cool off a bit.
On Sunday we did a combined “Happy Mothers Day” and “Surprise Birthday” party with the in-laws at Real Seafood. We got all dressed up to go… well… dressed up for a weekend, I guess. It wasn’t “tie and jacket” kind of dressed up for me, just a “freshly shaved and with a nice shirt” dressed up.
And a good thing too.
When we were getting ready to depart for the party, my wife headed out with a nice velour turtleneck that was tres chic last month. When we got outside, she realized that last month’s fine clothing was this month’s guaranteed heatstroke, so she headed back in and did a quick change into something less insulating. If I’d tried the tie and jacket look, it would have taken me much longer to get re-readied, assuming I didn’t simply melt on the driveway the instant I got into the sunlight.
So yeah, with the combination of heat, sunlight, evening rains and general humidity, I think it’s safe to say that winter is gone…
Of course, now that I’ve said that, we’re gonna get snow. This is Michigan.
