We’re hosting a Smithee movie viewing event tonight – in just a few minutes actually – and we’ve been prepping for it for most of the afternoon. I’ve been cooking. First thing was a batch of home-made salsa using some of the fresh tomatoes from a friend’s garden. It’s my first attempt to make salsa, and I think it’s ok… Maybe a bit salty. We’ll see how it goes.
The second thing was food for this evening’s gathering. It’s a nifty little snack thing that I’m used to from big family gatherings around Christmastime. Basically, you take a tortilla, some cream cheese, a thin slice of cooked ham and a green onion. Spread the cheese on the tortillia, slap down a slice of ham, put a stalk of onion on the end and roll it all up. Then slice it into little 1/2 inch thick discs. One of the best parts of the snack is that you get to eat the little end-bits of tortilla and cheese where the ham and onion don’t reach.
