The office move is becoming a really real reality, and soon. As in we need to be out of our current office by the end of next week. We’ve already got a lot of things moved to our new location, and even more things are boxed up and ready to go, but we’ve (rather predictably) run into a few snags…
First off, this week there’s an inspection from a national accreditation organization. Which means that having boxes and such cluttering up the place is a big no-no. That makes it tough to move much. Secondly, the office space we’ve been looking at off-site has been inspected and found wanting. The electricity fluctuates badly, which tends to make computers unhappy. Plus they want to rewire the network for the whole building, and they’ve chosen what would have been our coat closet as the perfect place to put a hundred-socket panel, along with all the fans and buzzing power converters that normally get placed somewhere more soundproofed and less conspicuous.
So we’re looking at Yet Another Offsite Office (YAOO for short). The positive side of it is that it’s closer to my Wife’s workplace, which would make the morning commute easier. The downside is that the other office had the holy grail of Ann Arbor area jobs: free parking.
You know the parking situation is bad when free parking is a serious consideration between a well designed place with good power and networking and an office where electronics could start randomly exploding.
Speaking of random explosions, this afternoon the server is going to be going for a little walk to the new room. Things will be shut down around 3pm and will hopefully be up and running again by 5. Otherwise, it could be a late night for me.
