It’s kind of a scary time at work. We’re expanding pretty quickly, and we’ve hired on some really cool people who are crackerjack computer programmers and a couple of awesomely talented designers. For me, that means I’m getting bumped up more toward a management role. Basically, instead of doing design and computer stuff I’ll be passing that work along to the new folks and coordinating their efforts. On the up side, that means we’ll be able to handle more projects and jobs. On the down side, that means I’ll need to get larger pants to handle the inevitable.
That’s also why I’ve been posting here less. Just not much time at work. Oh sure, I think of things that I ought to write down, or I promise that I’ll update when I get home, but other things get in the way. Little things like working up a proposal for a $10k web and file server system for the new offsite office. Or training the new folks on how to use the shared calendar system. Or going through ten years of archived jobs and figuring out the best way to make the backup and restore system intuitive for more than just me and my boss.
I mean, back when this was a two person operation, it made perfect sense to have the reference art and photos on a server drive named “Larry” and the fonts and software updaters on “Curly” while all the billing information was stored on “Moe”. Now that we’ve got new staff, it’d probably make more sense to break things up into folders named “Fonts” “Art” “Installers” and “Billing”.
It’s kind of sad. I’m gonna miss those stooges…
