Premonition corking

Last night while I was corking the apple wine, I realized that I had “White Christmas” stuck in my head on infinite repeat. I tried my usual tricks for evicting unwanted lyrical hitchhikers (singing aloud, translating the words into out-of-practice German, etc.), but nothing worked. I was trauming with every Weihnachts card I wrote for close to six hours, non-stop.

And today we woke up to six inches of snowfall in sweeping drifts.

Talk about a white Christmas.

The drive in this morning was interesting. We didn’t witness any actual accidents, but there was at least one car off the road, and a half-dozen or so people who were likely to be joining the spin-out club before too long. One frightening vehicle had little arcs of visibility in front where the driver had used the wipers to clear the windshield, and little slits on the sides where the windows had been rolled down, dumping the snow inside. It had Texas plates, and I kind of doubt that the driver even owned a brush, let alone a scraper…

On the other hand, having swamped through the unplowed intersections on central campus, I was able to get a primo parking spot just out front. It seems that there’s a lot of people who are running a bit late this morning.

Can’t imagine why.

Now that I’m here, I guess it’s time to get to work. I’ve got a couple of rush prints to get out the door. Plus I may need to find a ball-peen hammer and attempt an emergency Bingectomy on myself.

“…May your days be merry and bright….”
