Found two handy work related / fun utilities recently. The first lets you stream the contents of your iTunes library, the second lets you remotely control an iTunes jukebox on a remote machine.
We’re looking at putting together a fairly simple jukebox setup at work where people can queue up songs on a small mac and have them play through the big stereo system. So far, webRemote from Dead End Software seems to do the trick. It’s got a few flaws that need fixing (for example: you can add stuff to the queue playlist, but the web interface doesn’t show what’s been added) but for $10 shareware, it’s pretty cool.
The streaming software is cool hack from Slim Devices. It’s intended to let you remotely control and configure a hardware mp3 player that they make, but it can be re-tasked to function as a streaming server on its own.
Some deep part of my geekbrain is contemplating some way of combining the two into an automated streaming ‘Requests Only’ web-based radio station… I’ll let y’all know if anything like that breaks the surface.
