The Beulah Experience

I’m going to be posting some new podcasts in the next few days. They’re going to be readings from a book called “Poems By Beulah.”

It’s a difficult book to find.

The only printing we know of was by a small vanity press in 1973. A copy has percolated its way through the various library donation departments at the University, which is where my Wife first ran across it. She brought it to the attention of Badmovie, who earned the title “Emperor of E-Bay” after he managed to find a copy there.

Just so you know what to expect, here’s an excerpt from the “About the Author” page. All capitalization is as it appears in the original:

Many and varied are the Honors that have been accorded to Beulah, Poet and Composer of Crossville, Illinois. Her record, “IT HURTS TO BE HURT,” is still selling exceptionally well and will soon be heard in Japan.

Beulah’s book, “POEMS by BEULAH,” is still being very favorably received. Among the recipients are the late Soldier and Statesman, Dwight D. Eisenhower; His Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Windsor; The Honorable Richard B. Ogilvie, Governor of Illinois and the President of the United States, Richard M. Nixon.

The DICTIONARY OF INTERNATIONAL BIOGRAPHY CERTIFICATE OF MERIT was awarded to Beulah for DISTINGUISHED SERVICE as a POET and COMPOSER of SONGS. This Dictionary will be placed in all the major Libraries in 120 Countries throughout the World. This volume is the WHO’S WHO in the World of Poetry and Music. Beulah was also interviewed by the Journalism and English Class of Carmi Township High School.
