The final paperback Temeraire book – there’s another out there in hardcover, but I haven’t read it yet. Once again, this is going to be a tough book to write about without giving away huge chunks of the plot. If you don’t want spoilers, don’t click on the ‘more’ link…
At the end of the previous book Temeraire and Laurence found themselves in a no-win situation. The British government had just put into motion a plan which would guarantee that they would have the same overwhelming command of the air that they enjoy on the seas. If successful, the plan would have amounted to a near-total genocide of dragons. Laurence and Temeraire manage to halt the plan, and now they have to face the consequences of their actions.
Temeraire has been banished to the dragon breeding grounds in Wales. Laurence has been convicted of High Treason and sentenced to death, but his execution has been postponed so that they can still use him as a lever to control Temeraire.
And then Napoleon invades, and everything starts to get complicated.
