My wife and I met the author of this book at Conbust – that’s the Smith College sci-fi and general geekery convention where we’ve shown the Smithee Awards for the past few years. Book 23 is the second half of the Nero Wolfe double-feature that I finished yesterday. This was kind of an odd book to read – it was one of the stories adapted for the A&E Mystery series, so there was no surprise as to whodunnit or how it was actually done. On the other hand, it was fun to see what was kept and what was changed between the page and the screen.

Persuader is Book 21 of the year. Lee Child wrote it. The main character is Reacher. Jack Reacher. He thinks and talks in very short sentences, and he’s extremely good at killing people. That was rather a long sentence. For Jack.

Ah, Sookie Stackhouse. What on Earth is wrong with this woman? Why is she still hanging around here? She already knows that half of the Werewolf, Vampire, Faerie, Werepanther and representatives of pretty much every other supernatural social clique has some strange fixation with her. Why has she not skipped town and moved to somewhere – anywhere – else? It’s as if she she lacks any sense of self preservation.
