The quality on this is pretty low. The record was almost more scratch than groove, but I was able to get some recognizable music out of the noise. I suppose I shouldn’t complain – I don’t know what kind of noise I’ll be making when I’m 112 years old.

New thing for 2009

I’ve added a page to the main naviation bar over there on the left. It’s labeled “78 RPM records“…

Over the holidays, I digitized my family’s antique record collection. Every Monday for 2009, I’m going to try to post a new recording of a very old record.

Some of these are going to be single-sided recordings, others will be both “A” and “B” sides. And there may be special songs for special events in there too.

Neat online utility…

This site lets you look up any Victor recording prior to 1916 by any number of terms, including the catalog number.

This site covers pretty much everything else… It’s a little less friendly to use, but hugely comprehensive.

Yes. There’s a reason I’m fascinated by this.

No. I’m not telling you. You’ll have to check back in January.

Irony

The song title is “Wasn’t it Beautiful While It Lasted?”
