Glico Hana Ichigo Chocolate

Posted in 4.0 Wasabi Pea Rating, Sweet at 12:22 am by Boo

When I go snackering, I like to pick up some bizarre things (stay tuned for Pollock-roe and Mayonnaise Food Drops) as well as snacks that I’m pretty certain I’ll enjoy. Sometimes this strategy doesn’t work out (oh Puchi Pasuteru, why do you forsake us so?) but sometimes, like today, it does.

These little candies from Glico are, according to J-List, a seasonal chocolate treat. A strawberry flavored white chocolate treat with little bits of dried strawberry and a tasty crunchy cookie or puffed rice bits in the inside. They are also pleasantly aromatic in a nice Nestle Quickish strawberry way. Traditionally, strawberry flavor has been pretty hit or miss with respect to Japanese candy but in Hana Ichigo Chocolates, Glico has absolutely nailed strawberry. I’d say on the strawberry scale, these are quite possibly a 9 or a 9.5 (whereas the actual fruit is a 10). They even have the nice tartness of an actual strawberry, which was unexpected but appreciated. I’m blaming the dried strawberry bits for that one. The white chocolate brings a nice creamy taste to the well done strawberry table and a couple of my Guinea Pigs mentioned that the candies reminded them of a good strawberry yoghurt. I would have to agree and it is delicious. Most everyone is amused by the little cookie/crunchy bits and even the Pigs that were not so fond of strawberry were won over by these candies. Well done Hana Ichigo Chocolate.

Rating of 4 Wasabi Peas out of a possible 5.
