Sin A Orange Ginger Chew

The last stop on this tour of Asian countries is Indonesia with a tasty little chewy Sin A makes called Orange Ginger Chew. I’ve done a few ginger chews here and there but this is the first ginger plus flavor I’ve seen. Huh, I just checked my archives and it appears as if I eat more ginger chews than I review, for Prince of Peace and Ting Ting Jahe are my only chews. I guess I snag a couple American chews here and there so that could be why I think I’ve reviewed more than I have. Still, a flavored ginger chew is kinda novel.

And as the package says, it’s “suitable for the whole family at any time“. I like to put the suspense html on there because it makes me laugh. There is, of course, full orchestral music in the back ground and that sentence is spoken by that movie voice over guy.

OK! Back to the chews and the pretty pretty box. I like the orangy color and the ginger root pictured on the box plus the neat little subtle flowery bits. Fractional design pea points for the packaging…

but fantom confused pea points for the packing. I opened up the box to find two of my chews long ways, about six of them wedged in standing up and on the bottom, two more laying sideways. Strange. I’m not sure why they didn’t just pack them all in long ways or design the box so that all the chews could fit in the same way.

Lastly, looking at the ingredients I found that they don’t seem to have any ginger in them at all, but they do have the standard sucrose and tapioca starch along with maltose, orange juice and flavor and peanut butter. What? Peanut butter? I think I like these on account because that’s just weird. You can’t taste the peanut butter, in fact pretty much all you get is a nice tasty Tang-y orange (which also comes out pretty strong in the smell) and a good gingery bite despite there not being any ginger in the chews. I’m thinking maybe the ingredients aren’t as correct as they could be, or maybe there is no ginger and they are using orange rind to get that nice bite. It seems more ginger burn-y than orange peel bitter though and there is that ginger root on the package. Hmm!

As far as chews, these aren’t as bitey as a straight ginger chew but they do have a surprising kick to them. Some of my Guinea Pigs mentioned that they liked their ginger chew a tad “hotter” but I think these Orange ginger chews do pretty well for themselves. Especially considering they are Orange ginger chews. Plus points for flavor! One thing to watch for is the chewy. You may want to consult with your fillings before taking on one of these Orange Ginger Chews because they aren’t kidding about the chew.

Rating of 4 Wasabi Peas out of a possible 5.
