Orion Choco-Pie

Posted in 3.5 Wasabi Pea Rating, Cookie, Sweet at 12:30 am by Boo

Hello Junkies, this week we are going to explore snacks from Korea starting with Korea’s better version of MoonPies called Choco-Pie. It’s Now!

Choco and Moon pies are a graham cracker marshmallow sandwich dipped in a chocolate coating in case you have never met one. They are…OK. The chocolate isn’t the tastiest best chocolate and the graham cracker gets a little strange sitting under (or over) the marshmallow but they are kinda fun. I recommend the peanut butter MoonPie as the best of the lot but it has a crunchity chocolate cookie instead of a soft crumbly graham cracker so it really isn’t the same beast. Choco-Pie on the other hand I think does MoonPie just a bit better than MoonPie does.

“Enjoy the finest taste of original chocolate pie”. What does that even mean? The only chocolate pies I can think of are French silk or possibly Boston Cream pie, neither of which Choco-Pie even touches in comparison. They weren’t even the original chocolate graham cracker marshmallow thing out there as MoonPie came along in 1917 and Choco-Pie was created 57 years later in 1974 so I have no idea what the slogan is talking about. On the other hand, no transfats, preservatives or artificial colors so go Choco-Pie!

Plus they look a lot more like this when you bite in to them. Quite a bit different from the pristine picture of the package. Still, I rather liked Choco-Pie and I’d have them again and again, versus MoonPie which I’m most likely to only eat one of. The Choco-Pie graham is strangely crumbly and decently grahamy. It sort of crumbles neatly around the stiffer marshmallow filling for an interesting dichotomy of textures and in the back there is the ever presence of serviceable chocolate. My Guinea Pigs all gave Choco-Pie at least most of a thumbs up but they couldn’t be persuaded to go to a two thumbs up 4 pea rating. They were willing to give them a 3.5 plus a little extra thumbs up oomph so when you read the

Rating of 3.5 Wasabi Peas out of a possible 5, know that you can add a titch more for a 3.75 or possibly a 3.8.

    Hiya.

Orion’s Choco-pie is a first manufactured chocolate pie in korean history,
and after that some other brands crafted their own(but similar) choco-pie.

so I think they want to appeal theirs as ‘original choco-pie’ of korea. anyway.
