Coconut Pocky
I’ve done pocky before but for those of you just tuning in, it’s basically chocolatey stuff on a graham crackeresque stick. This is no different; milk chocolate with coconut flakes on a graham crackeresque stick. I like coconut so I was all about trying this pocky flavor out, however TheMan is very much not the coconut fan and was having none of it. It really depends which side of the fence you are on as to whether this is a good snack food or a bad one. Personally, I rather liked it.
The first thing I noticed was that before I even bit down on the pocky I could taste coconut. It had a sort of vanguard coconut thing going on which I enjoyed (and approved of, I like me some coconut). The chocolate coating is your standard milk chocolate coating which is tasty but not on the orgasmic scale. Don’t get me wrong, it does the job quite nicely. Mmmm, chocolate.
Ahhh, coconut. This is where the pocky excels. The coconut isn’t sweetened to an inch of its life like a mounds or coconut cream might be but rather it is unadulterated flakes that are just bursting with coconutty goodness and nothing else. It reminded me of something you might find in a Russell Stover collection, you know…those peanut butter cups that aren’t peanut butter at all but rather chocolate and coconut cups? Yeah those. Well, except for having a graham cracker base (you don’t get that in Russell’s candy assortment).
I was first going to go with a rating of 4 peas because the graham cracker was a tad soft. I thought that coconut pocky would be the BOMB if only the cracker was crunchier. It turns out that I had a bad pack the first tasting because the second one was nice and crunchy which made me very happy. I like it when inanimate objects listen to my critiques and take them to heart. Heh. So, I added another half point for crunchy perfection. I’d go the whole way and give them a 5 but I decided to knock half a point off for the coconut inclusion as it seems coconut is a fairly hit or miss thing.
So, because I am a big coconut fan and I realize that there are a good percentage of coconut haters out there I have decided to give coconut pocky a
Rating of 4.5 Wasabi Peas out of a possible 5.
