Hot Kid Want Want Rice Crackers (cheese flavor)

I can’t remember when I picked these up; probably when we all went to Tsai Grocery and got amusing snacks because “Want Want”? Yes yes! Plus, I do love me some cheese crackers so double bonus there.

These crackers are a weird light, crispity rice poof planks covered in pretty tasty yet very orange cheese powder. I really do like the poof plank texture, which is much lighter and airier than your standard cheese puff (a la Utz or Planters). I’ve found that if you sit down for an extended Utz or Planters cheese puff eating that the crispy airy puffs sort of rub your mouth wrong after a while. Mind you, that’s a lot of lot of cheese puffs later but there is still a small harshness in the construction of a Western cheese puff. I’d bet a whole year of Utz that you could eat these Want Want crackers until there were no more of them left on the planet and your mouth wouldn’t complain except to be sad that there weren’t any more of these crackers. Your belly might have a different opinion of your Want Want binging but as far as poofy smooth these Want Want crackers are the new standard to which all cheesy puff entities should hold themselves to.

The Want Wants (heh) smell very industrial Macs and Cheesy when you open them up, and the taste is pretty spot on for a generic Macs and Cheese powdered cheese. If you are a powdered cheese snob than may I point you to Sunshine’s Cheez-It crackers or any of those ilk but if you don’t mind a generic powdered cheese flavor (which I do not) than these are pretty tasty. My one quibble is that there is a definite sweet in with the cheesy which isn’t where I’d go with poofy planky cheese powdery crackers.

Without the sweet, these tasty little Chinese cheese poof planks are probably the ideal generic orange cheese poof snack and could easily score a 4 or even a 4.5. The sweet sort of weirds the cheese experience a little so I’m going to knock off a half pea point for a
