Ocean Cracker
Down in the meadow in a little bitty pool
Swam three little fishies and a mama fishie too
“Swim” said the mama fishie, “Swim if you can”
And they swam and they swam all over the dam
Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!
Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!
Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!
And they swam and they swam all over the dam

What can I say? I am eternally entertained by fishie snack crackers. I mean, check these Ocean Cracker fellas out! Pepperidge farms has one little sinister smiling snack cracker but these guys? What, is that seven different fish shapes? I only have six out for viewing because I think there is a weird hammerhead shark fish cracker which I couldn’t find (because we ATE them all!! Muahahahahaha!) and thus, did not photograph. Anyway, that’s a lot of fishie varieties (and not to malign the Pepperidge Farms fishie because he’s one of my favorite snackables) and they are all cute in their little fishie shape ways. Well, except for the fact that I think I’m supposed to just nod and smile and totally ignore the fact that the starfish crackers are the same size as the sperm whale crackers. That’s a lot of starfish!
There is a reason I bring up my favorite snacking cracker of the fish shaped variety because look at these Ocean Crackers. Are they not the spitting image of the Pepperidge Farms cheddar goldfish? Well, save for the fact that none of the fish, I don’t think, are goldfish (possibly the fellow I call “kissing fish” might be a gold fish, but I tend to think of him more as a gourami what with the lip like protrusions. He’d be the fourth fish in from the left on the box) but Pepperidge Farms squid or whale or dolphin crackers if you will. They have the golden cheddar yellow and the puffy cracker fishie shape and everything.
And that’s all they have. These are not, in any other way, anything like the cheddar goldfish. I’m not even positive they are cheddar cheese. Does cheddar get holes in it (see cheese image in the lower right hand side of the box)? There is a cheese flavor, but it’s the cheese of a powdered Kraft Mac and Cheese tasting cheese. Which isn’t bad. It’s just not Pepperidge Farms cheddar cheese. Maybe it’s a combination of cheeses with 65% of the combo being cheddar. That I would buy.
The Ocean Cracker cracker is an odd duck too, if you are expecting Pepperidge Farm goldfish crackers. Whereas my little smiling friend is crisp and airy, Ocean Crackers are eerily reminiscent of Club crackers (a sweeter Ritz cracker) in both buttery taste and flakey texture. I’ve never had a fish shaped Club cracker. It’s…odd. Good, but unexpected. Granted, I was expecting cheddar goldfish crackers and I really have to stop with the preconceived taste expectations but once I got my brain over the fact that these were not the Japanese take on Cheddar Goldfish, I rather enjoyed them. My Guinea Pigs were of the same mind (perhaps not so hung up on the smiling fishie cracker comparison) so we put our heads together and decided to give Ocean Crackers a
rating
of 4 Wasabi Peas out of a possible 5.

I love goldfish! This makes me happy 🙂 My guinea pig loves them too. I give him one once in a while.
