Dakara

Welcome to the third blogaversary of the JSFR. I’m celebrating by…well post dating first of all but that’s a tradition here. No, I’m celebrating by doing a month long liquid review. Damn it’s hot outside and I’m going to try my best to find some nice cool drinks for y’all to try.

Leading off the August JSFR blogaversary month is a little something called Dakara. Astute JSFR junkies may remember the name from a review done a bit back of Lotte Inryo Mix 5 Candy. I had no idea that Dakara candy was based off of a drink but here it is, in the flesh (or bottled drink flesh analog). Not a lot has changed since the hard candy days: The name still makes me giggle because I keep confusing it with the men’s cologne of a similar name (Drakar?) and apparently the drink is also “life partner”. Double giggles! And I don’t even know what they mean by that.

One thing that has changed is that the Dakara drink (heh, alliteration) is more grapefruity than pineapply. My favorite Guinea Pig said that Dakara tasted to him like weak grapefruit Kool-aid. Is there such a flavor? I wouldn’t know because I was never really into the Kool-aid as a kid. My taste thoughts ran more along the line of Squirt, except take out all the carbonation goodness (since Dakara isn’t a carbonated drink), thicken the remaining liquid a touch and put in a pinch of not so pleasing GRAPEFRUIT 68 flavoring. Flat Squirt isn’t really tasty at all; Dakara is just a tad worse. You might also achieve the Dakara magic by taking bottled water, adding some corn syrup, putting in enough grapefruit flavor substitute to discolor the water and possibly flavor it a tad and then packaging the whole kit and caboodle up all cute like. Personally, I’d just stick with the bottled water.

However, I’m going to have to add pea points for packaging amusement. Life Partner. *chucklesnort*. Also, thanks to Badmovie’s habit of looking at ingredients (and my subsequent ingredient perusal of JSFs) I discovered Dakara’s list of “functional” ingredients.

Notice that there is no sugar listed on the functional list. But…

Check out the first ingredient on the back ingredient list sticker. El numero uno, which makes me wonder: Are these the dysfunctional ingredients?

DakaraBalancePicto.jpg
Last but certainly not least, there is this pictogram fella. I…have no idea. I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the “Keep Good Balance” message from the front (which also…what? And hee!). Apparently you need to balance your red balls against your blue balls? Will Dakara do that for you? Sometimes the inability to read Japanese makes things both confusing and amusing.

So, add a half pea point for fun with packaging but take away some points for a not so stellar taste and I think Dakara ends up with a total

Rating of 2.5 Wasabi Pea out of a possible 5.

This is so hilarious, I don’t even know what to do. I think it’s not just the internet that needs to be nominated for a nobel peace prize but also you Boo. LOL!!!

Heh…would that nomination be for taking one for the team on the more esoterically disgusting snacks? As to if the candy was good, I went to look at the hard candy entry (because I didn’t remember) and discovered that the link was to the old server. It’s fixed now so everyone can click to see and yes, the candy was better.
