Pokka Milk Coffee

Posted in 4.5 Wasabi Pea Rating, Beverage, Coffee, Sweet at 6:13 pm by TheMan

TheMan here, with yet another coffee review. I have, somehow, become the semi-official coffee taster here at JSFR Labratories – not that I mind! I like the occasional cuppa (or in this case canna) Joe, and I don’t mind lending my tastebuds and typing to a good cause.

And Pokka coffee is a very good little cause. I’ll start with the packaging.

The can is fairly small. It could hide easily behind the spine of a paperback copy of George R R Martin’s Game of Thrones. More reasonably sized books would have to be turned sideways. Opening the can is a cinch. It doesn’t suffer from the tightly vacuum crimped top of Hello Boss.

It has a good coffee flavor without any burnt over-roast or nasty chemical bite to it. The texture is smooth and milky without being cloying, and it lingers nicely without having any strange aftertastes. Overall, a very satisfying little drink.

And that’s where we run into the point deductions. This stuff was good. DARN good. Flavor-wise, it’d give Hello Boss a run for its money. Unfortunately, the serving size is pretty small. The tiny cans are cute, but they just don’t hold much. As a result, I’m going to have to give Pokka coffee a rating of 4.5 Wasabi Peas out of 5.

This review (and the picture, especially) brings to mind something I’ve been thinking ever since I started reading Booniverse: namely, that it makes me nervous to see open containers of liquid sitting on a laptop computer. Having worked in tech support, I know it is not always a rare occurrence for people to spill things in their keyboards…

Well, see it’s this thing. I started the whole JSFR with this idea of including something for scalar reference so people could tell how big or small a snack food was. The old stand by is a quarter but I wanted to be all cutting techno-jiggy with the review so I thought, “Hey! Why don’t I use the powerbook? Brilliant!”. And it was, right up until my first Mochi, which got dust everywhere. Then there was the ice cream Mochi which made me kind of nervous with the melting and all. Ramune was fine because it’s in a clear bottle (which is usually sealed) but then came the other drinks. Drinks in unclear containers, drinks that I felt the JSFR viewing public had a right to see! Except I had already established a precedent with the powerbook and…well…I do the drink shots very carefully.
Although maybe I ought to drink everything out of the parent containers in the future…or shouold I have not mentioned that part?
