Bourbon Petit Series Chip (teriyaki mayonnaise)

Posted in 3.5 Wasabi Pea Rating, Chips, Savory at 12:01 am by Boo

We keep trying to find a JSF for David the Muppet King that will bring down the overall average rating and you would think that of all the things we’ve snacked on, Teriyaki and Mayonnaise flavored potato chips would have a really good shot at accomplishing that. You would, however, be wrong. I have no idea how these little tiny Pringlesque chips don’t dip below the average 3 pea rating but they don’t. I mean…teriyaki and mayonnaise? What?

I’ll tell you what; what is little itty bitty processed stacking potato chiplets. SQUEEE! That’s worth half a pea point for squeee because even the incredibly vile Puchi Pasuteru got points for construction. What is also a nice processed potato chip crunchity crunch.

Perhaps teriyaki and mayonnaise flavor is the ace in these chips’ hole because we certainly had our misgivings. Puchi Pasuteru lured us in with promises of delicious chocolate and then blindsided us with melonball ass but Bourbon’s Petit Series Chip? Was up front about the teriyaki and mayonnaise right from the get go. Heck, where can you go but up after leading with teriyaki and mayonnaise? Maybe there is a small amount of wiggle room to be worse than what a teriyaki and mayonnaise flavored chip promises but not much and not with these chips.

Out of the bag these chips have an interesting mayonnaise tangy / dark soy teriyaki smell. The two are not mutually exclusive and even play nice together. They play nicer when you bite into a chip. The first sense is “Oooo, tangy!” in a sort of mild vinegar tang and then there is a little bit of sweet that rides the tangy wave. After that there is a good potato chip salty to back things up with a hint of creamy smoothness. Lastly, least you forget you’re eating a potato chip, there’s the potato-y goodness of a processed potato plank. Mmmmm.

I’m not saying that Pringles should run out and start making a teriyaki and mayonnaise flavored chip but if they do and they shrink their standard chip down to about a quarter of the size, they might very well get something like these chips. As one of my Guinea Pigs said, “[These are] absolutely nothing like I would have expected but in a good way.” I’d say we all were surprised at how munchable these chips were and when we put our heads together, we came up with a

Rating of 3.5 wasabi peas out of a possible 5 wasabi peas.
