Ramune (peach)
Good morning (or whatever time of day it happens to be for you out there) junkies. Someone in the comments a while back mentioned Ramune and I thought I’d pick up a few more flavors to review since I wasn’t convinced I’d done the category proud. As it turns out, this is the last flavor out there that I haven’t yet reviewed so color me surprised. Well, it’s the last flavor I haven’t done that my second favorite Asian Grocery store carries so I’ll probably look about a bit until I call the category done. But for now; Peach!
Woah. If we were to go by smell alone I could tell you that there is no doubt that this is a peach soft drink. There is no doubt that it’s a peach flavored soft drink either, but it’s also an odd peach flavor. Instead of from the tree peach tasting, this Ramune is more canned sweetened peach halves in syrup with an unexpected floral undertone. It’s good, just a little strange. Oddly, this is not a very sweet Ramune (only 1 sugar listed!) which really works in its favor. Think of it more like one of those Faygo sparkling waters on steroids (and flavored floral canned peach halves in syrup) and that’s pretty much what’s going on.
Ramune in the past has had some problems with small carbonation and this Ramune too has a smaller bubbly than what I’m used to in my usual venue of pop (soda, cola, whatever). However, the lack of multiple sweeteners seems to bring out the sharpness in the carbonation. I almost wonder if there is a correlation between apparent flat carbonation and number of sweeteners because it seems to me the Ramune that are less sweet have a better carbonation. I’ll stick with that theory for now because Peach Ramune wrocks the bubbly like no other Ramune has so far. Peach Ramune also has the least sweeteners than any other Ramune so go Peach!
I still hate the gerbil ball drinking platform though. Ugh.
Rating of 3.5 wasabi peas out of a possible 5 wasabi peas.
