Rice Cake Strawberry
We’re back again with some tasty, tasty mochi this week (for certain values of mochi love tasty). The last time we visited with mochi it was around the end of August last year (I Mei Chocolate Ice Cream Omochi) and that was ice cream mochi. In fact, the last time I reviewed mochi that wasn’t ice cream based was waaaaaay back in Ought Four (August actually, but not the same date. THAT would have been cool). It’s about time to change that up so here is one of two tasty non ice cream mochis I picked up at my latest Hua Xing run.
This particular mochi happens to be Taiwanese in origin and is a very nice strawberry in flavor. Perhaps not a from-the-plant strawberry taste but pretty darned close. I’d give it about a 7 or 8 on the 10-point strawberry taste scale.
Like all other mochis, this one has rice paste (very strawberry flavored rice paste…tasty!) wrapped around a center blobbit of yum. Typically, the non ice cream mochi have a bean paste blobbit of some sort in the middle and this one does as well. Sort of. The middle blobbit is definitely bean-y in texture and slightly bean-y in taste but predominately strawberry tasting.
Check out the construction…pretty! Plus pea points for visual appealment. The middle white layer is a thick marshmallow like layer which is sweet and marshmallow moodgi.
All my Guinea Pigs who like mochi really liked this mochi (one even decided that they were fruity enough to be a decent breakfast). The only negative points were that there were not enough of them for a good glutton session. I can’t see that would detract any pea points so I’ll go ahead and give these Rice Cake Strawberry a
Rating of 4 wasabi peas out of a possible 5 wasabi peas.
