Kasugai Sumiyaki Coffee Candy
This is another snack from badmovie’s great J-List snackering extravaganza. I had asked him to pick this up because Coffee! Candy! But, when the package arrived I said to myself, “Hmmm. Sumiyaki. That sounds familiar.” Indeed it was, for I had done a coffee candy earlier. It was…adequate.
Kasugai makes these coffee candies and while they smell nicely coffeelicious and they have a keen sort of trapezoidalish packaging, the taste is a bit lacking. It is definitely a strong coffee taste but it’s also a burnt coffee taste. You Starbuck’s patrons might not even notice it, but for the rest of us the burnt is a bit dissatisfying. I’d say that these are slightly better coffee candies than the previous candies, but they still aren’t a delicious coffee treat in hard candy form.
Kasugai’s Sumiyaki Coffee Candy is a smoother and slightly better candy but it’s not something my Guinea Pigs or I would necessarily come back to after trying once. If I gave quarter pea points, I’d give an extra quarter pea to Kasugai but I don’t and this isn’t a three point candy. Thus, Kasugai’s take on hard coffee candy gets a
Rating of 2.5 wasabi peas out of a possible 5 wasabi peas.

What a pity I really liked them. As for the burnt taste I noticed that they did say charcoal flavor on the package. I most likely liked it while you did not though because I am a huge coffee fan.
