White Sesame Cake
Ho HO! Here’s a little something that comes from Santa DQ, a long standing Guinea Pig of the JSFR. And you thought I was going to say this was yet another J-List item. Well Santa DQ was generous to the JSFR this year so I’m in snacks through April. April! Also, after having done two months straight of double JSFRs it seems really strange to be back to one review a weekend.
This weekend features White Sesame Cakes. For some reason I thought these were sesame covered nougat deelies but this is not the case. I have no idea why I latch onto some of these strange ideas but in reality, White Sesame Cake is a hard compacted sesame log held together with some sort of sweet. Maybe a honey syrup? Hmmm. In short, if you think of them as delicious sesame flavored peanut brittle (I guess that would be sesame brittle wouldn’t it?) with perhaps way too many sesame seeds you’d have this.
Here’s a sort of blurry close up shot of the cake. Each lump is only scored part way down so you have to break off a bit to get a serving. Or you can stab it with a knife and it will crack into serving sized bits. I chose the knife stabbity method.
I’m not saying the proliferance of sesame seeds is a bad thing, but if you had as many peanuts in peanut brittle as they used sesame seeds, there would be hardly any room for the brittle. Somehow the Sesame Cake holds together, more or less, although there are going to be some escapees. I’ve been picking sesame seeds off my woobie while writing this up so if you aren’t into a bit of a messy snack, these are not for you.
I also found that the numerous seeds made for a touch of dryness in the cake but it’s a tasty sweet sesame dryness. I told my pigs that I’d give these a 3.5 rating but I could be easily swayed higher. They put their heads together and persuaded me to up the
Rating to 4 wasabi peas out of a possible 5 wasabi peas.

hi there,
this site is brilliant! actually i found this page while i was trying to find an online shop to buy black and white sesame cakes! but unfortunately i could not find any. if you know any online shop (UK, Scotland), i’d be grateful if you let me know.
There is another thing (i don’t know what it is called): a mixed package of four different types of similar cakes; 2 sorts of nut brittle but with too much nut and black and white sesame cakes. Same brand if I am not mistaken. I am so crazy about the whole lot and desperately desiring them at the moment;))))
Have a nice day!
Best,
Serazer from St Andrews

Hello hello Serazer! Welcome to the JSFR. As always, I like to direct people to J-list (linked off the side of the main page) as a good source for odd snacks. They might not have it now, but they are most likely to get it at some point in time. Sadly, my Google-fu is failing to come up with the company or the snack tonight. 🙁

I bought these also expecting some kind of soft filling wrapped in sesame. I was pretty disappointed 🙁
It isn’t really sweet at all, but I guess for 99 cents there are worse buys.
