Lucky Stick (strawberry cream)
While scooting about My Favorite Asian Grocery Store I found more Lucky Stick Pocky-alikes. Last time Lucky Stick came in tasty, delightful chocolate cream and today they move on to the second flavor in Neapolitan ice cream: Strawberry. My word these have a powerful strawberry scent. A powerful strawberry quick scent which…is pretty mouth watering. I was super excited to taste these because that smell was making my stomach antsy for some delicious strawberry (Quick) Pocky like entities. Mmmmm!
Here is where the review stops being wonderful because 95% of the strawberry in Lucky Stick went into the smell. This left 5% of the strawberry to try and cover the taste and when you spread yourself that thin, there isn’t going to be much strawberry. In fact, the first thing I taste when I bite into a Lucky Stick (strawberry) is waxy. Then the grahamy stick and then, waaaaaay back at the end of the taste line is strawberry. Mostly. How disappointing. Lucky Stick (strawberry) got a whole fistful of pea points for the smell but then I had to take all of it back and then some for the puzzling lack of strawberry. What strawberry you can taste is at least not overly chemical tasting but it’s not from the berry fresh either. One of my Guinea Pigs said these reminded him of strawberry Now and Later Taffy and I agreed.
I do want to give out props to the stick though. Lucky Stick has a noticeably fatter stick than Pocky and has that satisfying crunch with the ubiquitous “pocky” stick graham taste. I might like the Lucky Stick stick better than Pocky’s stick; it certainly is more durable. It won’t add enough pea points to this pocky-alike to make up for the bland taste though. Only one of my Pigs was overly enthusiastic about Lucky Stick (strawberry) and let us know “AEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIAAAAAaaaaaaeee!”. He’s also my youngest Guinea Pig, having just celebrated his first birthday 4 days beforehand, so you might want to keep in mind that he reviews a lot of things with the same reaction.
Rating of 2.5 wasabi peas out of a possible 5 wasabi peas.

Huh! Perhaps we got a bad batch of strawberry. If ours had had just a little bit more strawberry oomph I’m sure we would have liked them much better, but as is I think Glico does strawberry better with Pocky. Of course, I might have to get another pack of strawberry Lucky Stick to confirm this 🙂
