Jolly Pong (cocoa)
Happy 2011 plus a day, I thought I’d bring in the new year with a new flavor of Jolly Pong from Korean based Crown; Cocoa Jolly Pong. Imagine my glee when I found these in the Most Korean of Asian Grocery Stores because cocoa Jolly Pong? Yes please. Sadly, they only seem to sell cocoa Jolly Pong in the small sized bags so no gorging on chocolaty pong goodness for me.
Here is a close up of the cocoa Jolly Pong. It’s a lot more cocoa-y looking than I expected and it is not as sweet as I expected. The cocoa Pongs are still as wheaty as I remembered the plain Pong flavor being and still as melt in your mouth as the plain version. I almost like that these Pongs aren’t as sweety sweet as say Cocoa Puffs or Cocoa Krispies. They might actually make a decent chocolate cereal.
The Jolly Pong bird even encourages you to try these in milk.
So I did. They are chocolaty and puffed ricey and milky. I suppose they are decent as cereal but they do not make the milk a tasty chocolate sludge like Cocoa Krispies or Cocoa Puffs do. Is that bad? It probably means that Jolly Pong is somewhat healthier for you or something of that nature. The ingredients list 2g of dietary fiber (8% of your RDA of dietary fiber) and 8g of sugar (I’d give you the percentages but it is suspiciously absent from the list as is the 3g of protein). I think if I’m going to have a chocolaty cereal I also kind of want the chocolate sludgy of milk when I’m done but that could be because I really like chocolate sludgy milk. I also really dislike when my cereal gets soggy and cocoa Jolly Pong sogged up pretty fast.
As a snack though, I really dig the cocoa Pong. It has a nice puffed wheat flavor that mixes nicely with the cocoa delicious and the whole thing isn’t marred by being too sweety sweet. It’s a nice munch.
The plain Pong had all sorts of fun packaging awesome which isn’t nearly represented with the cocoa Pong. There are these two Pong birds who are eyeballing the milk and juggling pong bits with a chocolate bar paddle.
Or maybe cocoa Pong just is naturally bouncy. You can still find plenty of amusement at Jolly Pong’s Home Site but I’ll warn you: I just went there to check the link from back in ought five and they have revamped the site a bit since then. Don’t blame me if the Jolly Pong song gets stuck in your head. Jolly jolly jolly, Jolly jolly jolly, Jolly jolly jolly PONG!
Rating of 4 Wasabi Peas out of a possible 5.

Crown is a Korean brand and this is a Korean snack with Korean words on it. I like your review though, I haven’t tried it. The gold bag taste just like sugar smacks.
